A very interesting day today. This morning I had a meeting with a very experienced neurologist, who helped me understand a little bit more about the make-up of the nervous system and why we are seeing very noticeable effects of the disease in Ava, despite the appearance of disease stability in all of the biochemical tests. She explained that the Central Nervous System is made up of isolated areas which function together to create the whole. So whilst there may be improvement in some of the individual areas, there is a huge amount of change happening, which means that the overall picture on the outside could look bad/worse before it appears to be getting better. Now I understand why recovery takes years, rather than months. Essentially we must just keep going with therapy and wait for improvements to be made across the entire nervous system before we see any significant change on the outside. I am looking forward to hearing the therapists opinion tomorrow on how we are doing with that. In the meantime, Ava completed her neuropsychometric evaluation today and we had a free afternoon. Since the sun made an appearance for the first time all week, we decided to head up to Milano Due to catch up with our animal friends at the lake. We were surprised to find only a few fish and a solitary Love duck, despite there being an abundance of fish, ducks, swans and turtles on every other occasion. Ava thought that none of them appeared today because we hadn't brought them any sausage rolls to eat. Perhaps it's because we DID give them sausage rolls last time...
