I have managed to permanently change 2 of Ava's OT appointments to early slots, allowing her to be at school from 10am-3.30pm every Monday and Friday. She is very happy with the change of routine, as am I, and certainly seems to be concentrating better. We are also trying a little experiment with Kinesiology tape, which aims to give Ava increased postural support. Interestingly we, Ava's teachers and OT specialist all noticed an improvement within the first 24 hours. Hopefully this is something which will continue and which we can explore further. In the meantime, we are also making more of an effort to arrange a weekly play date for Ava, so that she is allowed some down time with friends amidst her demanding schedule. Ava was excited all week in the build up to having Margarita over and was even more thrilled when Margarita came and gave her an American Girl doll! We spend so much time and energy trying to make Ava feel 'normal', it's easy to forget that sometimes she likes feeling 'special' too. We are lucky that she has such kind and thoughtful friends who never fail to do that. Our school was also very thoughtful last week, when Ava's class went to the Roman Verulamium Museum in St. Albans. I initially thought that Ava would have to miss the trip because of the amount of walking involved, which she would clearly struggle with. However her teachers devised some other fun Roman activities for her to do at those points in the day, allowing her to thoroughly enjoy the visit along with her friends. She even got awarded 'Achiever of the Week' for being brave enough to put her hand up and tell the experts there that at home we have a Roman oil lamp similar to one at the Museum.
