A Very Sweet Story

I was reminded yesterday that it is one year since we held our first ArchAngel fundraising event, a dinner and auction in London. It was a phenomenal success, raising over £100,000, which has gone directly into research for a MLD and to provided much needed care and support to families with MLD affected children. Whilst we are working on ideas for our next big fundraising event, it is very heartening to know that our supporters haven't forgotten about us. Donations are still filtering through and I must share one particularly inspiring story with you: Ophelia Stoloff is a lovely girl in Ava sister Angelina's class. Over the Easter holidays, Ophelia and her brother Jared decided to bake some cup cakes and brownies in an attempt to raise some money for ArchAngel. They set up a stall on their doorstep and offered the goodies to passers by. They did not set any prices, rather they explained why they were raising money and asked people to donate what they thought the cakes were worth. With 24 banana cup cakes and 24 chocolate brownies, they raised an incredible £230!! They describe the highlight of their day as: "when a lady gave us £80 for just three things, because she loved the effort that we had gone to for those less fortunate than ourselves!" We are so impressed by their resourcefulness and the fact that they chose to use their precious holiday time to help others. It is especially touching that they chose to support ArchAngel, as so many bigger charities usually come to mind. But research into cures for rare diseases is desperately underfunded, and it is only through the caring of people like Ophelia and Jared that these monstrous diseases will be conquered and that children like Ava can have a second chance at life. We are extremely proud of their achievement and hope that they will inspire others to do something so worthwhile. Thank you both!!
