Day +123

Posted on: 29/07/2014

Last week was again dominated by intense physio, OT and tutoring. The good news is that Ava is already showing improvements with her balance and coordination, which is extremely positive and motivating for all of us. The more mundane aspects of our week were balanced out with a super arts & crafts birthday party; a trip to the cinema to see 'Pudsey'; and the annual school pencil case shop in Paperchase. Ava was also excited to get measured up for her new school uniform and thrilled to discover that she had grown several centimetres over the spring, possibly due to the intense nutrition she received through her catheter in Milan. This weekend we had some nice visitors, including Ava's Godmother George and Grandma and Poppy. Ava continues to impress everyone with how well she is doing, not least in climbing the 96 stairs to our apartment several times a day whilst the lift is being refurbished. When we left the hospital in Milan, Ava found stairs terrifying and took each step slowly with both feet, whilst holding on to both the hand rail and me for dear life. Now she is confidently using one foot per step and only occasionally holding the hand rail going down, which is real progress. So whilst everyone else in our building is totally fed up of the lift being out of order, we are quite glad of the stair therapy for Ava - and the chance to hopefully work off a few extra pasta induced pounds for me!
