Day +148

Posted on: 23/08/2014

We are still doing our best to keep Ava as active as possible, as she is struggling with her balance and coordination somewhat. At this stage we are still in the window before the treatment becomes effective, so it's impossible to say whether her current difficulties are attributable to post-chemo effects or actual disease progression. We will know more when we return to Milan for her six months post-transplant checks, which have just been confirmed for the week commencing 29th September. In the meantime we are trying our best to offset any deterioration with exercise and therapy and Ava continues to try her hardest at everything. I was quite impressed by the fact that she managed to climb UP this slippy slide in Hyde Park yesterday after we collected Angelina and their friend Bella from their tennis camp. Our summer holidays have flown by and Ava is excited about returning to school and being back amongst her friends. We have decided to try half days initially, bearing in mind that she may fatigue easily, but also that we must continue with as much therapy as possible in the afternoons before her energy runs out. Ava was happy to receive her new orthotic heel cups on Thursday and can't wait to get her new school shoes next week. I'm also looking forward to the start of school, but it is going to feel rather strange after having Ava by my side all day every day since early March!
