Day +188

Posted on: 03/10/2014

All of Ava's 6 month post-transplant assessments are complete, so today we had a free day in Milan. We began with a visit to the hospital to take care of some admin and to say goodbye to the wonderful staff there. At the 3rd floor outpatients unit we saw Dr Laura, psychologist Francesca and nurse Gigliola. Gigliola then took us down to the 2nd floor isolation unit to see nurse Federica one last time. After the hospital we visited the zoo and the Basilica San Raffaele (underneath the angel), where Ava wanted to say a prayer of thanks for making her stronger. Next stop was a visit to the laundry, where it was lovely to see Thea but unfortunately we missed Sonia, who was at home feeling unwell. Next time... We had lunch at our hotel before heading out to feed the ducks again, after waitress Iolande gave us no less than 9 bread rolls for them. Although the temperature today was a glorious 24 degrees, the onset of autumn is very evident here, as we crunched our way through large piles of leaves all the way. Ava was keen to indulge in a final chocolate gelato, although this one was a little over ambitious :) It seems that the taste for sweet things which she lost immediately post-chemo has well and truly returned. We are lucky to be on the only flight to London from Linate today which hasn't been cancelled because of fog and looking forward to being back in our own beds tonight.
