Day +259

Posted on: 12/12/2014

Poor Ava was down with a stomach virus this week and I was quite concerned on several levels. Firstly, I was worried that her symptoms were as a result of the issue with her gall bladder which developed this summer. Secondly, she missed a good deal of therapy, as she was too weak to leave the house for several days. At this crucial stage, Ava can loose muscle strength and coordination at an alarming rate. Thirdly, I was worried that any infection may escalate into something worse, bearing in mind that her immune system is not fully recovered. Thankfully our GP confirmed that it was just a seasonal virus and that Ava's gall bladder was unaffected. Despite 3 nerve-wracking days off school, her temperature dropped yesterday and she recovered just in time for Christmas Jumper Day today. It was also the last day of term and Ava was delighted to be awarded a special trophy for 'determination and tenacity' by the Headmistress of the Junior School, Sarah Styles. Today was Miss Styles' last day, as she is leaving Francis Holland to become Headmistress of a lovely school much closer to her home, which is outside of London. We are ever grateful for her incredible support of Ava and our family through this difficult year and I personally will miss her very upbeat and proactive attitude. We were all super proud of Ava receiving this award, which will be on display in school for all to admire (the picture above was taken in the Junior hall). Since we finished school at lunchtime, Angelina was able to join Ava at OT and together they had a particularly active session to make up for the hiatus. We are now looking forward to a few days of Christmas shopping and card writing before heading off to Milan on Tuesday. There Ava will undergo her 9 months post-transplant checks and we will be praying for no further disease progression.
