Happy Re-Birthday Ava!!! Today is the one year anniversary of Ava receiving her new life-saving DNA. It has not been the easiest 12 months, as Ava has been noticeably affected by issues with balance, coordination, processing speed and memory. However over the last few months we have seen some fantastic progress in Ava, including re-learning many lost abilities like feeding and dressing herself. All indications are now that her disease has finally arrested (it can take around a year) and we can now work on further improving her abilities and quality of life. We are ever thankful for the incredible work of the Gene Therapy project in Milan and the opportunity that it has given Ava. We flew home this afternoon and tonight we are celebrating this miracle with a chocolate ice-cream cake from our favourite Italian gelateria in London, OlivoGelo. Here's to many more happy re-birthdays to come.
