Day +94 Goodbye Milan!

Posted on: 30/06/2014

After 111 days in Milan (the figure above is days post-transplant), we are on our way home. This morning we called in at the laundry to say goodbye to the wonderful Sonia and Tea. Next we visited the San Raffaele Basilica, underneath the angel, where Ava wanted to say a prayer. We then went to the hospital for our official discharge and to say an emotional goodbye to the remarkable Dr Biffi (above left) and her team. We are humbly grateful to every single person who has contributed to Ava's care, with special thanks to Dr Laura Lorioli (above right), Dr Francesca Fumagali, Francesca Ciotti, nurses Morena, Silvia, Alda, Gigliola and Miriam, as well as the entire team in the isolation unit. The care here has been exceptional and from day one and we have been treat with exemplary consideration and kindness. This experience was intense and at times very stressful, however they have endeavoured to make it as smooth as possible for us. Thanks to them we are leaving feeling happy, upbeat and energised, rather than exhausted and traumatised. Ava is also thrilled to be leaving with the gift of a beautiful doll from them! We will never be able to thank Dr Biffi enough for believing in Ava and giving her this chance of life. We hope that ArchAngel can help Dr Biffi to give more children this same opportunity. Finally, thank you to everyone at home who has shown such incredible support for us whilst we have been in Milan. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity and positivity of friends new and old from around the globe.
